Retreat FAQ

Is Pura Vida Perras really limited to 7 women?

Yes... sort of! We can accommodate 4-9, plus your host, for an average of 7.5 participants in this retreat. 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶 It's definitely 7 days, though.😆

♀️ I only see women's retreats on your event page... Will there ever be a retreat for men? ♂️

Yes! We are looking at dates and planning co-ed retreats in 2025. Drop us an email to be added to our mailing list and stay tuned!

✈️ What Airport do I fly into?🛬

The closest airport - and the one we provide round-trip, door-to-door transportation to - is Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia (LIR). If you choose to extend your trip by vacationing to other areas of Costa Rica and want to fly in or out of San Jose (SJO), we can advise you - but transportation to any airport other than LIR will incur an additional expense.

🛂 Do I need a Passport?📓

Yes. A visa is not required for visitors from most countries, but everyone needs to have a valid passport with at least 6 months left before expiry. If your passport expiration date is less than 6 months, you may be denied entry into Costa Rica. You will also need to show your return ticket or proof of onward travel. Ask your airline and embassy about other travel requirements.

💵 What About Money?💷

The local currency is the Costa Rican Colon, but the US dollar is widely accepted and credit cards are taken almost everywhere. You do not need to exchange money at the airport; Samara has several ATM machines that dispense both USD and CRC, and most of the businesses in town will make an exchange for you as well, allowing you to pay with dollars and get change in colones.

🗺️ Can I extend my vacation?🗿

Yes! We would be honored to help you plan an itinerary that will ensure your entire Costa Rican experience is magical.✨Want to visit a rainforest or volcano, soak in hot springs or see a sloth? We're happy to advise you with free trip planning service. Just Email us!

⚕️What services are there in Sámara?👩🏻‍⚕️

👙🧴 What should i pack?🩴🩴

1) Bathing Suits. One to wear, one to dry. Also, Sarongs, Beach Cover-ups, and Flip Flops.

3) Sturdy Tevas, Keens, Hiking Shoes, or Four Finger Toes for all your jungle hiking adventures.
4) Reef Safe Sunscreen & Feminine Products can be very expensive here. It's best to bring them.
6) Goggles or Snorkel Mask, if you're into that sort of thing. There will be fish.🐠🐠🐠
7) Health Items. Refillable Water Bottle. Medications.

🌞 When is the best time to visit?🌦️

There is no bad time to visit Costa Rica. (Okay... October. It's October!) We generally don't encourage visits to Guanacaste in September and October, because those are the rainiest months of the year and many businesses shut down during that time.🌧️

🏖️November-December marks the transition between the rainy and dry seasons, so that is a beautiful time to visit. It still rains occasionally, but we can generally expect sunny weather. The forest is lush and green and all the rivers and waterfalls are flowing.🌴

☀️January-April is very dry. The hottest part of year, this is a good time for water sports and sun seekers. Not the best choice for the heat sensitive, as it can be quite dry and dusty.🫠

🌺June-August is a beautiful time of year. Steady rain typically only lasts half the day, leading to flourishing plants and wildlife. You might get lucky and see an incredible light show if a summer thunderstorm moves across the sea!⚡

🙈 I am nervous about traveling alone!🧳

Don't worry, we'll meet you when you arrive at the airport in Liberia! You will be provided with door-to-door transportation and be part of a group. While we recommend you always minimize risks when traveling by taking basic precautions (locking doors, not leaving valuables in sight, using the buddy system, etc.), our little beach town enjoys a relatively high degree of safety.

Petty theft is the most common crime faced by tourists in Costa Rica, violent crime is rare, and public areas of the villa are monitored by security cameras. We'll discuss a few simple security tips during orientation - we've developed some pretty cool hacks to keep our beach time stress-free! - and do everything we can to ensure everyone can fully relax.

Please note that any credit amount from a cancellation will be applied to current rates at the time of rebooking. Exceptions to our cancellation policy cannot be made for any reason. We do not offer credit for a guest arriving late or leaving early on a booked retreat package.

📗 Where do I buy Travel Insurance?🎫

Travel Insurance coverage is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED when booking a retreat! With most agencies, insurance must be purchased within 7-14 days of making your reservation.

Most importantly, please be sure that your insurance policy covers you for all relevant activities that you will be engaging in on your retreat package, especially any action sports like surfing, hiking, cycling, rafting, etc.

You are welcome to choose ANY international travel insurance provider, although we suggest World Nomads Travel Insurance - a top rated company as reported by retreat guests over the past decade - or doing a search on TravelInsurance.com to get several quotes.
